Welcome to Imaginate 2009, an exciting new design competition for 12-18 year-old secondary school students across Ireland. We wanted students to use their imagination and creativity to "Design an object for the classroom of the future". To enter we asked students across Ireland to draw and describe their new design on a poster and send it in to us by the 11th February. Their creation could be any product, object or design that they thought could be used in the classroom of the future. We set up a short instruction video for both students and teachers to help them participate. Once we had received the hundreds of entries our judges selected the top eight designs in each category. These short-listed posters are now displayed on the Imaginate website and the winners will be chosen by the judges and the public who will be able to vote for their favourite design online between Friday 20th February and Friday 6th March. Be sure to vote for your favourite design. Winning posters will be determined by the public vote combined with the rating of the judges. The judges' decision is final. Once the public vote closes on March 6th the winning designs will be prototyped using our state of the art 3D printer (rapid prototyping machine). All short-listed entries in both categories will be invited to our Award Ceremony at NUI Maynooth on the 31st March 2009 when the winners and runners up will be announced and the prizes and prototypes will be presented. RTÉ will stream the awards on RTÉ.ie and will conduct a webchat following the ceremony.
